CTOI has five competitive skating teams and many performance teams including beginner through adult skaters representing all types of skating abilities and trained disciplines. U.S. Figure Skating judges evaluate teams on technical merit and presentation, emphasizing originality, costuming, artistry, and musicality.
We are excited to announce our upcoming spring show, Barbie on Ice, taking place on May 18 from 5:30PM to 6:45PM at the Ashburn Ice House. You’ve seen the movie, now come experience Barbie, Ken, and their friends skating in a CTOI choreographed masterpiece!
Our practices will be short, spanning less than two months. Skaters have a few options for participation, each with its own registration and fee structure. Below are the available options:
Saturday 10:50AM to 11:20AM practice at Ashburn Ice House: Practice will run from April 20 to June 1 (no class May 25). Skaters in this group will perform in the Barbie On Ice show on May 18 at Ashburn Ice House and at the Medstar Capital Iceplex World Tour shows on June 7 and June 8. Register for each practice session (“Ice Show – TOI”), held on Saturdays at 10:50AM, via the Ashburn Ice House Daysmart App for $18 per session to Ashburn Ice House. Additionally, skaters must also register on the Medstar Capitals Iceplex Daysmart App for the “Ice Show – Ashburn TOI” with a $100 fee payable to Medstar Capitals Iceplex, which covers the costume and the Medstar World Tour show. (6 half hour sessions + 3 shows: total costs $208)
Saturday 4:00PM to 5:00PM practice at Ashburn Ice House: Practices run from April 20 to May 18 (no class on April 25). Skaters in this group will perform exclusively in the CTOI Barbie On Ice show on May 18. Based on the number of skaters that sign up, skaters may not be required to attend all sessions. The fee is $200 and is payable to Capital Theatre on Ice via our TeamSnap registration process. The fee includes a costume, ice time, coaching, and the show on May 18. (Up to 8 half hours sessions + 1 show: total costs $200)
Sunday at 5:15PM to 5:45PM practice at Medstar Capitals Iceplex: Practices run from April 21 to June 2 (no class May 26). Skaters will perform at the Medstar Capitals Iceplex World Tour show on June 7 & 8 and at the Barbie On Ice show on May 18 at Ashburn Ice House. The fee for this option is $264 which includes 6 lessons, costume, dry run rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performances at the two shows at Medstar. Registration details are at Medstar Capitals Iceplex Ice Show Info and Registration. (6 half hour sessions + 3 shows: total costs $264)
Again, skaters may register for one, two, or all three options. Each option requires separate registrations and fees. Once practices begin, skaters will not be able to switch between options. CTOI asks all skaters to register on TeamSnap for the Barbie On Ice show for easy communications with skaters and parents. CTOI’s TeamSnap also contains schedules for all practices and shows.

Competitive teams practice together a minimum of two hours a week and are expected to practice at least one additional hour on their own. Many skaters and individual coaches collaborate with CTOI team coaches to identify growth areas and focused training practices.
Performance teams practice on-ice when their scene is called. These skaters are not required to attend every practice, and are encouraged to practice on their own outside the weekly team practice.
CTOI introduces a unique blend of skating skills and required off-ice strength training specifically built around the team choreography and skater skills. Competitive team strength class coaches include professional Physical Therapists Kristin Huppi and Dani Viola alongside professional figure skaters.
Not sure if we are a good match for you or whether you want to compete or perform? Get in touch and we’ll talk through all the options and what our skaters and parents have done in the past.
